A graceful and modern Margaret River Shiraz with lively dark berry fruit, subtle earthiness and a plush, medium-bodied palate. Crafted from fruit sourced from each of the Vasse Felix vineyards, with a focus on our cooler climate, southern Margaret River fruit.
A year of peculiar weather where our commitment to organic viticulture was vital to the successful growth of quality, balanced fruit. A cool and wet spring prompted the need for an intense leaf plucking program to mitigate disease risk. Luckily, December and January were warm and dry. Canopy management was a priority throughout February and March to combat unusually warm and moist conditions. A rainfall event in early February provided a timely drink for the red varietals, followed by warm weather which was ideal for the Chardonnay to achieve ripeness. A second rainfall incident in early March was followed by sunny and breezy conditions to dry off the fruit for healthy ripening. With our judicious canopy management and a crop of naturally resilient grapes, we are pleased to say that fantastic quality fruit was ripened and harvested with little-to-no disease in our vineyards.

I reckon a little extra time in bottle has brought this shiraz around to a point of superb drinking. Love the palate weight which is in the medium zone. There's a mix of dried herbs across the dark fruit combination. A seamless and yet focused palate with fine chalky tannis and a lick of oak that doesn't compromise the fruit.

New to the Filius family, the shiraz bursts onto the scene from a vintage that birthed effortless, delicious, gorgeous wines. Shiraz in particular was outstanding in '21. This is structured and spicy, but it is also supple, pliable and super-juicy: a bounty of red and pink fruits are overlaid with careful winemaking detail, all of it laced together with fine tannins. Powdery and beautiful. Yes!

Could there be any more spice packed into this? It’s a soul-like expression of cinnamon, pepper, fenugreek, cloves and … OK let’s stop there. All that is complemented by a wave of dark fruit, texture and richness of flavour. Lots of tannins but shapely and ripe. An impressive wine.
